Ryoanji

The monk at Ryoanji
      thinks of his rake;
      the gravel shows his deviation.

No moss on the stone
      no moss on the gravel
      it grows in the shadow between.

Islands in a gravel sea
      mountains lifting over cloud
      it makes no difference.
