haiku       a collection of haiku, mainly       John Bailey

Winter haiku

clouds move fast
how dark! how light!
    moon rise

winter storm
house creaks
clouds hurry

black crow hovers
on the wind
clumsy hawk

evening silence
snow covers last leaves
    twigs shiver

old brush worn just so
bristles branches
over January sky

night silence
only streetlamps
buzz

winter cat
out wants in
in wants out

cat stalks sparrow
only his tail
is angry

old indoor cat
happy in the fresh air
blinks in winter sunshine

racing up the slope
red deer stir the wind
    the bracken closes

winter haiku writers
debate their work
    the mouse cleans his whiskers

fat grey goose
fat grey poet
    both reflecting idly

how strange!
    showers
    fall on ice

jumping into puddles
splish splash
haiku walking

cedar shingles
    dry -- curled
    wet -- flat

moor mist flows downhill
lonely pine breaks the tide
    no one sees

pinecone drops
cogs whir
    cuckoo!

green buds
    old bush
    making new summer roses

bright spray
dark sky behind
    first cherry blossom

3 pebbles 1 jar 1 flower
life captured
not frozen
