Looking for the sisters of the dog star

If you stand here
no, here, exactly where I point
and look, there, no, there, look,
the arrows will take you there,
can you see them? They mark the walls,
they point to the sky, can you see them?
Let's try again. Stand there,
stand in my footprints, no, don't smudge them
tread gently and you'll be there. Now, look,
over here, right where I'm standing, then up
three feet over my head. Don't wander. Let
the arrows on the walls help you. Can you see them?
One more time. Stay where you are,
you are in the exact spot. Draw up to your
full height and gaze over my head. There. In that
dark place in the sky. Can you see them?
No, it doesn't matter. We'll try again next
year when you are a little taller. They won't
go away. They won't go away. So long as the
night is dark and the sky reaches from here to
Sirius and beyond they'll still be there. All you need
is the precise viewpoint.
