tell me       a poetry collection       John Bailey

The scream

plantain puller
the arbeit shuler
recharge the mandrake scream
two stout horses
     do
          the
                  deed
no-one will know they are mad

put the gloves on the foxes, mama
you know they love to swing
one last run and one last hunt
run rabbity
     it really
          doesn't
                  hurt
if no-one can hear you scream

blind eye the daisy's dog
turn toe and hobble
nothing left of the dream
breath fast
     it's okay
          to be
                  mad
perfectly natural to cry
